Mule next to a fence with a drink in a copper cup

Whoever heard of a Moscow mule? Any mule in the Palouse Valley is a Moscow Mule, Right?

This painting is part of my Animal Spirit series. Spirits can be ghosts or the liquid containing ethanol and water that is distilled. Animal spirits can be guides to understanding personality or the future. Or, in this case, Animal Spirits are drinks associated with an animal, feathered, finned, scaled, or furred.

What’s interesting about this drink is the mug that it traditionally comes in. The story is that three sales guys (the guy who bought Smirnoff Vodka in the 1930s, a guy who had an excess of ginger beer, and another with an excess of copper mugs) were sitting around lamenting the fact that their products weren’t selling. Voila, the Moscow Mule, a popular cocktail of the 1950s and 60s was born.
