This painting is part of my Animal Spirit series. Spirits can be ghosts or the liquid containing ethanol and water that is distilled. Animal spirits can be guides to understanding personality or the future. Or, in this case, Animal Spirits are drinks associated with an animal, feathered, finned, scaled, or furred.

When I was growing up, the neighbors across the street had a “French poodle” named Walter. That’s probably why I thought the Poodle originated in France, rather than Germany, where it was bred as a water retriever. The word poodle comes from the German word pudel, meaning to splash in the water.

Knowing this now, you would think I would choose schnapps or beer when considering what kind of alcoholic beverage a poodle would drink. But, I found myself drawing a champagne bottle. You would think that I'd at least draw a poodle in champagne colors.

This painting comes framed. Contact the artist if you would like to see a picture of this painting framed.
